On Friday, China's top industry regulator said that China's self-driving cars are nearing true road readiness with some testing plans approved qualified for the official rollout.

Guo Shougang, deputy director of the equipment industry department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the country has granted the first group of nine automakers to carry advanced self-driving tests on public roads, and they are now under test and safety evaluations.

"Some testing plans for autonomous vehicles have already been confirmed, and will soon be pending evaluation," said Guo at the ongoing 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference.

"We will grant final entry permission once they finished qualification tests and necessary procedures," he said.
