A total of 2.32 billion green electricity certificates have been issued nationwide by end-Sept, said the National Energy Administration on Tuesday.
Among them, wind power accounted for 793 million, or 34.19 percent; solar power accounted for 484 million, or 20.86 percent; conventional hydropower accounted for 885 million, or 38.16 percent; biomass power accounted for 156 million, or 6.71 percent; and power generated from other renewable energy sources account for 1.9 million, or 0.08 percent, according to the administration.
Green electricity certificates serve as electronic IDs for green power transactions. Due to the homogeneity of electricity, once it enters the grid for transmission, its attributes cannot be distinguished by the grid or consumers. Green electricity certificates can thus prove green power use for holders.
Each certificate represents 1,000 kWh of green power generated from renewable sources and it can be traded separately from green power, mainly at a national green electricity certificate trading platform, Beijing Power Exchange Center and Guangzhou Power Exchange Center.
