Overseas returnee captures hometown beauty in fridge magnets
Shen Ji, who graduated from a university in the United Kingdom and worked in Hangzhou for eight years upon returning to China, made a significant career change early this year. She left her job and returned to her hometown in Moganshan, a scenic spot in Deqing county, Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, with her husband Xi Yang to start their refrigerator magnet business.
Shen and Xi both love art and collecting. Therefore, they began trying to use various materials to paint the scenery of Moganshan into a small refrigerator magnet so that tourists could take the lucid waters and lush mountains back home.
Currently, the couple has designed and produced more than 10 models of refrigerator magnets, which are sold in stores, cafes and minsu (rural Chinese-style bed and breakfast) in Moganshan. "Collecting refrigerator magnets has always been our hobby. It's quite a happy thing to turn our hobby into a career and make a contribution to our hometown," Shen said.
