Japanese exhibition exploring Tang poetry's legacy

An exhibition at Shizuoka Convention and Arts Center shows works of Chinese and Japanese artists to trace the spiritual "routes" of Tang Dynasty (618-907) poetry.[Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

In 2020, artists at China Academy of Art, in Zhejiang's provincial capital Hangzhou, started a project of traveling and creating, called The Way to Poetry.

They have made works to trace how Tang Dynasty (618-907) poets addressed in their works the landscapes before their eyes, and how the scenes, maybe having changed a great deal today, and these classic poems have inspired people today.

The school has expanded this artistic initiative to Japan, to the Shizuoka Convention and Arts Center, at an exhibition where works of Chinese and Japaneses artists jointly trace the "routes" of Tang poetry.

Paintings, calligraphic works, prints, celadon ceramics and sculptures are on show, offering contemporary perspectives to enrich the presentation of Eastern aesthetics.

The exhibition is from Oct 23 to 29.
