CCBF unveils sustainable, renewable energy learning book

Exploring topics such as China's "dual carbon" goals, the origins of clean energy and practical tips for protecting the environment in daily life, Clever Doctor Electricity, a book designed for primary school students, was released on Saturday during the ongoing 2024 China Shanghai International Children's Book Fair (CCBF).

Using easy-to-understand language and vivid illustrations, the book, released by the State Grid Shanghai Electric Power Research Institute, aims to further promote green energy awareness among young readers while fostering early awareness of sustainability and renewable energy, it said.

To enhance the learning experience, a hand-cranked generator was introduced during the release, allowing children to generate electricity themselves to light a bulb, among other scientific activities such as hydropower, wind power and solar power generation.

The book simplifies technical concepts for young readers, fostering early interest in science and sustainability, said Wei Huaxin, a member of the institute.

The CCBF, running from November 15 to 17 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre, features 497 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions, showcasing over 20,000 children's books.

With this year's theme, "Together with the World and the Future", the event underscores the growing emphasis on educational content that prepares the next generation for a sustainable future.
