More than 30 penguin chicks have been born through artificial incubation since Oct 31 at the national-level Antarctic penguin breeding base at Sunasia Ocean World in Dalian, Liaoning province.

According to Li Yanqiu, head of the penguin working group at the aquarium, this year's primary focus has been breeding Gentoo penguins.

The staff has prepared breeding rooms for the penguins, each equipped with nesting areas filled with pebbles to create a comfortable environment for them to lay their eggs and raise their chicks.

When the penguin chicks reach around 50 days old, a nursery will be established where the young penguins will learn essential skills such as independent feeding and swimming, said Li.

Once the chicks shed their down feathers and become fully independent, they will rejoin the larger penguin community at the aquarium.

In addition to the breeding efforts, Dalian Sunasia Ocean World has launched a series of activities to celebrate the breeding season. These include educational courses on penguin breeding and research, as well as the limited-time offer of creative products featuring penguin feathers, which have been popular with visitors.
