Tang Danling, an oceanography scholar and professor at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is one of the scientists who participated in the portrait taking.
"I didn't hesitate when I received the invitation and flew to Beijing from Guangzhou, Guangdong province, for the photo shoot. It's a great idea to showcase the spirit and demeanor of female scientists," she said. "When I go out to sea for research, I stay on the ship for over 10 days, getting seasick and vomiting terribly. At home, I am a loving grandmother. During the photo shoot, I am a powerful woman who can use my knowledge to protect the Earth. Every woman has many facets."
