The School of National Ballet of China premiered its full-length ballet production The Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs in two acts at Tianqiao Theatre in Beijing from Nov 22 to 24.

The production was a special "gift" honoring the National Ballet of China's 65th anniversary.

Blending traditional Chinese culture with the elegance of ballet, the production captivated audiences of all ages, offering an artistic journey that was both visually stunning and educational.

"The Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs reflects our commitment to preserving and interpreting traditional Chinese culture while cultivating future talent in ballet. We hope audiences will enjoy this whimsical journey, discover the rich traditions behind the zodiac culture and embrace the themes of courage, wisdom, unity and responsibility," says Feng Ying, head of the ballet company and the artistic director of the production.

Performed by the ballet school's entire faculty and students, the production creates a dreamlike world filled with wonder. Director Yu Daxue worked alongside talented young choreographer Wang Xiaoya and composer He Siyang provided a vibrant and distinctive score. At the same time, the stage design team created an enchanting blend of classical and modern aesthetics.

The ballet brings traditional Chinese culture to life onstage, making it accessible and endearing to audiences. The playful yet professional performances of the young dancers, combined with imaginative choreography and dynamic animal portrayals, kept viewers enthralled.
