Like the previous edition, this year's show is also inspired by Shanhaijing or The Classic of Mountains and Seas, a major source of Chinese mythology that dates back more than 2,000 years.

It is the 30th edition of the show, which was inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2008. To mark the special occasion of the 30th anniversary, a special exhibition on Chinese lantern art will be staged along with the festival, which will be set up at Shiying Hall on the third floor of Huabao Building, Yuyuan Shopping Mall.
