China's sustainable development has shown steady improvement for seven consecutive years with the assessment index increasing by 47.8 percent during the period, said in a report on Thursday.

The report was co-released by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges and the Earth Institute of Columbia University.

The index evaluates five key areas: economic development, social well-being, resource and environment, consumption and emissions, as well as regulations and protection. All five sub-indices under China's sustainable development index have demonstrated upward trends, indicating progress across multiple dimensions of sustainability.

The report pointed out that China is gradually forming a city spatial pattern that can effectively support the green, low-carbon transformation and high-quality development of the economy and society.

Cities such as Zhuhai, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Changsha and Hefei have demonstrated better performance in sustainable development, according to the report.
