MOSCOW - One person was killed and nine others were injured as a fire broke out on Wednesday in a shopping mall in Vladikavkaz, the capital city of Russia's North Ossetia-Alania Republic, local media reported.

The fire, which spread across an area of 800 square meters in the Alania Mall, was caused by a domestic gas explosion, the TASS news agency quoted local emergency services as saying.

Authorities said there were no visitors in the mall at the time of the explosion, but some employees and passers-by were injured in the incident.
