A new high-speed railway in Eastern China's Jiangsu province began construction on Friday, further boosting the development of regional infrastructure in China's Yangtze River Delta region, the national railway operator China State Railway Group said on Friday.

The new line, linking Yancheng and Yixing of Jiangsu, will span approximately 311 kilometers, and feature 10 stations, including Yancheng, Taihu West and Yixing.

The rail line is designed with varying speeds across its segments: the section from Yancheng to Jingjiang and from Taihu West to Yixing will have a top design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, while the section from Jingjiang to Taihu West will accommodate speeds of 250 km/h. The entire project is expected to be completed within 5.5 years.

As a major component of the integrated infrastructure development in the Yangtze River Delta region, the new rail line will serve as a crucial connector between various regional networks.

Once completed, the new railway will provide enhanced transportation links across the region, offering more convenient travel for residents and tourists alike. It is expected to significantly boost regional integration and play a key role in the continued development of the Yangtze River Delta region, one of China's most economically dynamic regions.
