China, in response to domestic industry's application, will launch probe into the United States mature process chip exports to China at low prices, pursuant to China's laws and regulations, as well as the rules of the World Trade Organization, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
Domestic players in China's semiconductor industry have reported that the Biden administration has provided substantial subsidies to the chip sector in the US, a spokesperson with the ministry said.
Such actions have granted US companies an unfair competitive advantage and allowed them to export mature process chip products to China at low prices, thereby harming the legitimate rights and interests of China's semiconductor industry, the spokesperson said.
The concerns expressed by China's domestic industry are understandable, and they have the right to file trade remedy investigation requests, the spokesperson said.
