Throughout the performance, the audience responds to the actors with laughter. The exaggerated stage set, playful props, and vividly colored character designs contribute to the fun atmosphere. During the performance, jokes and punchlines appear frequently, keeping the audience applauding.

"We hope this play will allow the audience to help complete a contemporary performance with us through frequent interactions with the actors," says director Lin.

Yang, the director, adds: "The play is for the audience. After the first round of performances, we received audience recognition, which makes us look forward to this year's performances even more." This year, the team plans to refine the details and bring more exciting moments to the audience.

The production premiered in April last year, with this adaptation marking a significant addition to the theater's legacy as the first to bring The Miser to the Chinese stage in 1959. In the 1980s, the company revisited the classic, demonstrating its enduring appeal and relevance to contemporary audiences.

Actor Fu Jia, who plays the role of Harpagon, as well as the troupe master, brings a touch of humor and absurdity while adding a sense of realism. Rather than simply focusing on the miserly traits, his performance also invoked empathy.

Song Jianlin and Zhao Zedong, playing Valere and the troupe's actors, provide an intriguing contrast between the play-within-the-play and the external story. Additionally, Li Po as Master Jacques and Xu Baixiao's cross-dressing portrayal of Frosine, among others, bring a variety of dramatic characters to the stage.

Their exaggerated yet authentic and dynamic yet disciplined portrayals filled the theater with constant vigor.
