Cui Shengyu, a 15-year-old student from Huigu School in Changchun, Jilin province, won the break dancing championship at the Radikal Forze Jam World Street Dance Championship, held from Friday to Sunday in Vietnam.

He started to learn break dancing at 6 years old and quickly showed potential.

Under the guidance of Bao Bo, a member of the Jilin Dance Association's Street Dance Committee, Cui made great progress.

In August 2023, Cui won the break dancing championship at the second ISF U-15 Gymnasiade, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the first time a Chinese student had won an international gold medal for break dancing.

In the past two years, Cui won several championships at different international competitions.

Wang Senda, director of the committee, stated that Cui's achievements reflect the professional development of street dance education in China.

"With breakdancing becoming an official Olympic event, a complete system has been established domestically, from youth training to national team selection," he said. "More young talents like Cui are stepping onto the international stage through systematic training."

Cui has begun preparations for the upcoming third ISF U-15 Gymnasiade, which will be held in Serbia.

"My goal is to showcase the power of Chinese street dance to the world," said Cui. "And I hope to see the Chinese flag raised in more competitions."
