The inspection bureau of the Beijing Municipal Tax Service, State Taxation Administration, has disclosed the results of a tax evasion case involving influencer Sima Nan and imposed a penalty.
Leveraging big data analysis, the tax inspection bureau identified suspected tax evasion by Sima Nan and launched an investigation.
The investigation revealed that from 2019 to 2023, Sima Nan evaded personal income tax, value-added tax and other fees totaling 4.62 million yuan ($0.64 million) by concealing income and filing false tax declarations.
In addition, he underpaid corporate income tax of 753,200 yuan by falsifying costs through a Beijing-based film and television company, allowing the company to illegally benefit from preferential policies intended for small and micro enterprises.
The tax inspection bureau ordered Sima Nan and his company to repay the evaded taxes, along with late fees and fines, totaling 9.27 million yuan, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. All payments have been fully settled.
Tax departments will continue to strengthen tax oversight, rigorously investigate and punish violations, and uphold a fair tax order, according to the inspection bureau.
