Qingming holiday sees increase in travel by foreigners and Chinese

Border inspection authorities across the country witnessed more than 6.2 million cross-border trips during the just concluded Qingming Festival holiday, a 19.7 percent year-on-year increase, the National Immigration Administration said in a statement on Monday.
As many as 697,000 trips were made by foreigners, a 39.5 percent year-on-year increase, the administration added.
As many as 2.76 million trips were made by residents on the Chinese mainland, which were 14 percent higher than the same period last year. Residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan made more than 2.75 million trips, a 21.5 percent year-on-year increase.
Border inspection authorities also inspected 271,000 vehicles making cross-border trips during the holiday, a 15.7 percent increase from the same period last year.
