China urges US to support Latin America's development

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian urged the United States on Tuesday to adjust its attitude and take concrete actions for the development of Latin American and Caribbean countries instead of sowing discord.

Speaking at a daily news briefing, Lin dismissed the remarks made by the US State Department's Special Envoy for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone who said in a recent interview that China's currency swap cooperation with Argentina was a "blackmail mechanism" and called on Argentina to consider terminating it.

"China's bilateral cooperation with relevant countries is never directed against third parties, nor should it be subject to interference from third parties," Lin emphasized.

"The truth of who is engaging in coercion and causing trouble is clear to all," he said.

Noting that China and Argentina have engaged in practical cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, Lin said the currency swap cooperation has played an important role in helping Argentina maintain economic and financial stability, and has been welcomed by Argentina.
