Chinese automaker Chery unveiled plans on Thursday to launch 39 hybrid models in 2025, as part of a broader effort to scale its global hybrid technology offering.

At its "Hybrid Night and Open-Source Initiative" event, the carmaker based in Wuhu, Anhui province, introduced a slew of latest technological results and launched an open-source initiative.

Of them was the next-generation Kunpeng Tianqing engine, achieving over 48 percent thermal efficiency—among the highest globally.

Chery said it began hybrid technology R&D as early as 2001, claiming to be China's earliest and most comprehensive hybrid developer.

Chairman Yin Tongyue said Chery's hybrid strategy is guided by "four pillars": sustainable development, affordability, safety, and reliable range.

Chery sold 620,025 vehicles in the first quarter this year, up 17.1 percent year-on-year, with 163,458 new energy vehicles sold and 255,465 units exported, maintaining its position as China's top car exporter.
