Xinjiang vlogger shares rose jam-making process
Aytuna Ablikim, a 32-year-old vlogger with about one million followers, recently shared a rose jam-making experience on Douyin to introduce her daily life in Hotan city of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
She said making rose jam starts by carefully selecting fresh roses. The insides of each flower need to be removed one by one, keeping only the petals. The meticulous process takes hours.
Next, one kilogram of the cleaned rose petals is mixed with 2.5 to 3 kilograms of white sugar. The mixture is kneaded by hand. It takes about an hour for the petals and sugar to combine fully.
Finally, the well-kneaded jam is stored in a clean container that is entirely free of oil and water to prevent spoilage. There, it ferments and dries for about one to two years to develop its distinct, mellow taste.
