Twenty-two archaeological excavation and research projects were honored at the sixth Shanghai Archaeology Forum, jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Shanghai municipal government, which opened on Tuesday. Nearly 300 archaeology professionals from 40 countries and regions attended the event.

The honored items include China's Hongshan cultural society and the process of social and cultural complexity, decoding complexity in the transition from foraging to farming in mainland Southeast Asia, AI-based detection and landscape reexamination of geoglyphs on the Nasca Pampa in Peru and archaeological discoveries at Notre-Dame Cathedral after the 2019 fire.

The theme for the event this year is "Technology, Society and Archaeology", highlighting how technologies emerge from social worlds, how they shape human futures and how archaeological insight can help us reflect more deeply on the challenges of the present day.

Since its establishment in 2013, the biennial event has become an important platform devoted to global dialogue, shared discovery and the advancement of archaeological knowledge.
