Exhibition featuring oriental traditional craftsmanship arrives at Columbia University

An international touring exhibition focusing on oriental traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art was on show at the United Nations Headquarters in New York earlier this month. Yu Xuemei, vice-president of Shanghai University, said that Eastern traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art are vital for cultural exchange. She noted that the exhibition aims to build a platform for dialogue through art, which can help foster cross-cultural consensus and deepen multilateral relations.

Amine Mechaal, executive director for global engagement at Teachers College, Columbia University, said that collaborations between universities and art institutions are becoming important pathways for promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Antonio Reyes-Gonzales, a research analyst for the Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Programme, expressed that the craft wisdom presented in the exhibition offers a unique perspective for addressing global challenges in cultural heritage transmission and protecting human cultural diversity, providing valuable Eastern experience for sustainable human development.
