China has completed the first phase of its 6G technology trials and accumulated a reserve of more than 300 key technologies, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Wednesday, underscoring policymakers' efforts to steadily enhance the country's information and communications technology capabilities.

Xie Cun, head of the information and communication development department at the ministry, said at a news conference in Beijing that the second phase of 6G technology trials has recently been launched.

"China has put in place 4.838 million 5G base stations, with the number of 5G users exceeding 1.2 billion, and accounting for 42 percent of global declarations of standard-essential 5G patents," Xie said, noting that the country has built the world's largest and most technologically advanced information infrastructure.

Going forward, the ministry will further accelerate 6G research and development while stepping up forward-looking planning and fostering an application-oriented industrial ecosystem for 6G, Xie added.
