Iran, US to hold indirect talks in Oman on Friday: media

Xinhua | Updated: 2026-02-04 21:59

TEHRAN -- Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States will be held on Friday in the Omani capital Muscat, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Wednesday.

The talks will be focused solely on Iran's nuclear program and the removal of US sanctions, the report said.

It added that Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and US president's special envoy Steve Witkoff will represent the two countries in the negotiations.

The negotiations are expected to take place as tensions remain high between Iran and the United States due to the latter's military buildup in the West Asia region.

The last indirect nuclear talks between the two countries were held in May last year in Rome, just weeks before the June strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran's nuclear facilities.
