Trump says he will sign order imposing 10 percent global tariff

WASHINGTON -- US President Donald Trump said Friday he will sign an order imposing a 10 percent global tariff to replace some of the emergency duties the US Supreme Court ruled illegal.

"Today I will sign an Order to impose a 10% GLOBAL TARIFF, under Section 122 (of the 1974 Trade Act), over and above our normal TARIFFS already being charged, and we are also initiating several Section 301 and other Investigations to protect our Country from unfair Trading practices," Trump said on Truth Social.

Speaking at a news briefing, Trump harshly attacked the justices who ruled against the tariffs, saying that the court has been "swayed by foreign interests."

The US Supreme Court ruled Friday that the Trump administration's sweeping tariffs under a law meant for use in national emergencies are illegal.

The justices ruled that the US president did not have the authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose import tariffs on goods from nearly all US trading partners and it is the right of Congress to impose taxes, not the president.
