Electric vehicle (EV) charging on China's highways surged to a record high during this year's nine-day Spring Festival public holiday, which ended on Monday, with daily average consumption jumping 52 percent year-on-year, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA).

Data from 53,300 highway charging piles showed that total charging volume reached 149.77 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), with a daily average of 16.64 million kWh.

The NEA stated it will further expand infrastructure and improve service capacity at highway rest areas to ensure the network can meet the growing demand for long-distance EV travel during major holidays.
