The Tianshan gas field, located on the southern edge of the Junggar Basin in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has cumulatively produced one billion cubic meters of industrial natural gas as of Sunday, according to the Xinjiang Oilfield of China National Petroleum Corp.
This milestone marks a breakthrough in China's development of ultra-deep, ultra-high-pressure complex gas reservoirs, reinforcing the nation's energy security and enhancing residential gas supply assurance, the company said.
The field was put into development in February 2021, with no prior mature experience to draw upon. With a depth exceeding 7,000 meters and a formation pressure coefficient above 2.0, it has become a standard ultra-deep, ultra-high-pressure clastic rock condensate gas field, characterized by its complex geological conditions and extreme development difficulty.
