Zelensky says Easter truce proposal with Russia submitted to US

Xinhua | Updated: 2026-04-03 21:38

KYIV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kiev has submitted a request for an Easter truce with Russia to the United States, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported Friday.

"Our proposal for a ceasefire on Easter remains on the table," Zelensky told reporters, adding that it remains unclear whether the United States will convey the message to Russia.

In late March, Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to establish an Orthodox Easter ceasefire with Russia, which will be celebrated on April 12 this year.
