Nearly 9,000 relict gulls, an endangered species under China's first-class national protection, have returned to Kangba Nur National Wetland Park in Kangbao county, Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, for their annual breeding season.

Dense clusters of nests now cover the lake's central islets, reinforcing the wetland's reputation as the "Home of the Relict Gull in China".
