China calls for closer dialogue among civilizations to improve global governance

Exchanges among civilizations serve as a bridge for building consensus and enhancing mutual trust, and are essential to building a more just and equitable global governance system, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Jin Xin, vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a news conference held by China's State Council Information Office for the release of a white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions".

When asked about China's measures to promote dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations, and how the Global Governance Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative can reinforce each other, Jin noted that the Global Civilization Initiative has pointed the way forward for the development and progress of human civilization.

The international community believes that the initiative will help countries jointly open up a new landscape for mutual learning among civilizations and write a new chapter in improving governance, he said.

China has worked to build a broader network for exchanges among civilizations, Jin noted. The country supports the United Nations in serving as the main platform for dialogue among civilizations and has promoted the establishment of the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations by the UN General Assembly.

A multi-level and multi-field framework for global dialogue among civilizations is gradually taking shape, with political parties, think tanks, young people, women, and civil society organizations from various countries taking part in such exchanges, he added.

Jin also highlighted China's efforts to strengthen cultural inheritance and innovation. China has signed cooperation agreements with more than 100 countries and deepened cooperation in areas such as joint archaeology, world cultural heritage protection, and the translation of classic works, he said.

He added that China has carried out various forms of international cultural and people-to-people cooperation while continuing to facilitate exchanges between Chinese and foreign nationals.

Looking ahead, Jin said China will work to promote the coordinated implementation of the GGI and the GCI, drawing wisdom from dialogue among civilizations to address global challenges and promote sound global governance through harmony among civilizations.

China will continue to support the building of UN mechanisms for exchanges among civilizations and firmly uphold the authority and role of the UN in global governance, he added.
