Honeysuckle harvest brings prosperity to Hunan villages
In recent days, farmers in Hongling village of Xupu county, Hunan province, have been busy harvesting honeysuckle flowers, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that has become a crucial source of income for the region.
Xupu is recognized as the "hometown of honeysuckle", having cultivated approximately 900 hectares of the valuable crop, according to local authorities. The county produces around 13,000 metric tons of dried honeysuckle flowers annually, generating an output value of 1.3 billion yuan ($180 million). These products are distributed to medicinal herb markets nationwide.
The cultivation of honeysuckle thrives due to the county's mountainous terrain and high-altitude climate, which offer ideal growing conditions for the plant. The industry has become a cornerstone of the local economy, providing stable incomes for many farming families.
