As temperatures soared in Southwest China's Chongqing recently, Locajoy Theme Park in the city's Yongchuan district introduced comprehensive measures to protect its animal residents from the sweltering heat.

According to Liu Xiaolin, deputy general manager of the Wildlife World Division at Locajoy Theme Park, animals native to the high-altitude and cooler regions of Eurasia and the Americas struggle with the intense heat. To ensure their comfort, the park has implemented several strategies, including the installation of sunshades, misting systems, and pools in the enclosures. Indoor animals, such as giant pandas and red pandas, benefit from air conditioning, while tigers and black bears enjoy regular showers and baths, along with cooling treats like chilled watermelon and mung beans. Additionally, shaded areas provide a space for relaxation and play, while outdoor display times are adjusted to keep the animals comfortable.

On Tuesday, the city issued its first red alert for high temperatures this summer. In 31 districts and counties, including Yongchuan, temperatures are expected to rise to between 40 C to 42 C.
