Ironclad friendship with Cambodia remains firm
President Xi Jinping on Friday urged China and Cambodia to carry forward the ironclad friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of the two countries, and advance the building of an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era to a higher level.
Xi made the remarks in his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
History has proven that China-Cambodia friendship is not a relationship forged for a particular moment or a single event, but a lasting bond built on a shared commitment that transcends changing international circumstances and is passed down from generation to generation, Xi said.
He called on the two countries to enhance strategic mutual trust and strengthen solidarity and coordination, and enrich the "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework, in order to deliver more benefits to the two peoples.
He stressed that the two sides should accelerate the development of the Industrial Development Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, upgrade traditional sectors such as electricity and agriculture, and foster emerging industries including artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
The two sides should make full use of the "3+3" strategic dialogue mechanism on diplomacy, defense and public security, and work together to crack down on cross-border crimes such as counterfeiting, smuggling, online gambling and telecom fraud, Xi said.
Xi said that consolidating the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and gradually building mutual trust serve the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian People's Party. Xi expressed readiness to strengthen exchanges with the Southeast Asian nation on experience in Party and state governance, and work together to stay firmly on the path of China-Cambodia friendly cooperation.
Hun Manet expressed appreciation for China's long-standing selfless support and assistance for Cambodia's economic and social development.
Regardless of changes in the international landscape, Cambodia's policy of strengthening friendly cooperation with China will never change, he said, adding that the country is committed to building a Cambodia-China community with a shared future.
