Editor's note: President Xi Jinping held a series of bilateral talks on Friday with foreign guests attending the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai. The following are the highlights of the talks.
Support expressed for new Thai government
China firmly supports Thailand in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions and supports the new Thai government in its smooth governance, President Xi Jinping said when meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Shanghai on Friday.
Beijing places the development of relations with Thailand high on the agenda of its neighborhood diplomacy and has always been a strategic partner that Thailand can trust and rely on, Xi said.
The two sides should maintain close high-level exchanges, make full use of the "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism between the two countries' foreign and defense ministers, and advance strategic cooperation to a higher level, he said.
China and Thailand should further enhance strategic mutual trust, strengthen strategic cooperation, work together to address challenges, and accelerate the building of a more stable, prosperous and sustainable China-Thailand community with a shared future, he said.
The two countries should bolster their respective modernization and contribute to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region, he added.
During the talks, Xi emphasized the need to accelerate the construction of the China-Thailand railway and railway connectivity among China, Laos and Thailand, expand cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, aerospace and clean energy, and strengthen cooperation in tourism, media and education.
He said that the two countries should continue to crack down on cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud in order to create a secure environment for practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Properly handling the Thailand-Cambodia border conflict serves the common and long-term interests of the peoples of both countries, Xi said.
Anutin expressed his delight at making his first official visit to China as prime minister. He said that China has always been a reliable and trustworthy friend of Thailand.
The two countries have consistently upheld mutual respect, trust and support, and Thailand firmly adheres to the one-China policy, Anutin said.
Thailand is committed to a peaceful resolution of the Thailand-Cambodia conflict and appreciates China's fair and just role in this regard, he added.
