China delivers first domestically built pure-electric export container vessel

China delivered its first domestically built pure-electric inland container vessel for export on Tuesday in Nantong, Jiangsu province.

The 182-TEU ship arrived at Rugao Port in Nantong that morning for final testing before its departure to Vietnam in four days, according to Shandong New Energy Shipbuilding Co, the company that built the vessel for CMA CGM.

Designed specifically for inland waterway container transport, the vessel has a capacity of 182 twenty-foot equivalent units and is propelled by a quiet battery-powered system, enabling zero emissions.

Upon delivery, it will enter service on a fixed liner route between Binh Duong Province and Cai Mep port in Vietnam, replacing conventional fuel-powered ships and providing full-cycle green shipping services, according to its builder.
