The Hami-Chongqing ±800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission project has delivered tens of billions of kilowatt-hours of electricity to Chongqing since its completion, playing a crucial role in supporting Chongqing's electricity demands during this summer's peak period, according to State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company.

As of 10 am on Thursday, the project had transmitted a cumulative 30.108 billion kWh of electricity to the southwestern municipality, achieving a single-day transmission peak of 145 million kWh. This comes as Chongqing endures an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 35 C for over 20 consecutive days starting July 5. The city's power grid saw peak-load records for three consecutive days in mid-July.
