Japanese lawyer slams government for military buildup under pretext of defense

Makoto Ito, a Japanese lawyer and the director of the Japan Institute of Constitutional Law, criticized Tokyo's continued military buildup and its moves to push beyond the constraints of the country's pacifist constitution under the pretext of defense.

Ito also called on Japan to remain firmly committed to its exclusively defense-oriented policy, arguing that this is the key to improving its security environment.
