The Dounan Flower Market in Kunming, Yunnan province, saw more than 42 million stems traded in the lead-up to Qixi Festival, often regarded as China's Valentine's Day, according to the Kunming International Flower Auction Trading Center (KIFA).
This year's peak Qixi trading period ran from Aug 12 to 18, driven by strong demand around the festival and wedding season. Prices for roses approached 15 yuan ($2.22) per stem at the peak.
