Fishing ports in Rongcheng, a county-level coastal city in Weihai, Shandong province, were busy sorting, organizing, and transporting their catches on Thursday following the end of the annual summer fishing moratorium on Tuesday.
The catches, including Spanish mackerel and hairtail, are larger and of higher quality than in previous seasons, some fishermen reported.
This success is largely attributed to the strict enforcement of the summer fishing ban in the Bohai and Yellow seas. This policy runs annually from May 1 to Sept 1 to protect marine resources and promote sustainable development.
During the moratorium, the local marine fishery authorities carried out extensive stock enhancement initiatives, including the release of juvenile species.
