China's "Harmonious and Beautiful Islands" initiative has fortified ecological barriers, enhanced livability, driven green common prosperity, and upgraded disaster mitigation after three years of construction, according to a report.
The Ministry of Natural Resources' Island Research Center on Wednesday released a report on phase outcomes after its designation of the first batch of 33 islands in 2023, with each location pioneering a sustainable development path tailored to local conditions.
According to the data, over 70 percent of damaged island ecosystems have been restored over the three-year period. Clean energy now powers half of these islands with a consumption share exceeding 60 percent, while 30 locations secured safe drinking water coverage above 90 percent. Furthermore, over 30 national and provincial marine ranching demonstration zones are now operational.
