Daxing district was upgraded from a county to a district with approval from the State Council on April 30, 2001.
Covering an area of 1,012 square kilometers, Daxing district is divided into nine towns and 18 townships with a population of 520,000.
As a flat plain district, it is one of the satellite cities of Beijing.
