The Beijing International Film Festival, launched by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality in 2011, is regarded as 'a gala in world film circles'. The festival is one of the city's most important cultural activities and a core activity in its goal to become "an oriental film capital", making it a World City with Chinese characteristics.
