Beijing Municipal Office of Information Technology has the following main responsibilities:
1. Implement State regulations on information network and formulate local laws, as well as long-term and annual plans.
2. Approve overall plans and subsequent plans of action concerning information networks at different levels and in various sectors,; and approve key information projects in Beijing.
3. Formulate overall plans for Beijing's public communication networks, television and broadcasting networks and special communication networks used by local government; serve as a focal point between local networks and the communication trunk networks of the State and special networks of the military and other agencies.
4. Put forward recommendations on technical standards for information network construction in Beijing; direct technical feasibility studies, assessments, and acceptance of key projects.
5. Be responsible for application of information technology; develop information resources in Beijing; monitor loans and special funds to promote information technologies.
6. Oversee law enforcement in the information sector and qualification certification of the service provider in the network-based information service and network information integration industry; examine and approve domain registrations by local government agencies; establish a local computer network security certification system.
7. Launch and review research projects in the information sector; supervise training and publicity; conduct overseas exchanges.
8. Manage Beijing's wireless radio administration.
9. Undertake other duties assigned by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Steering Committee of Beijing Information Network Industry Office.
