Overview
Beijing International Studies University was founded in 1964, and is a nationally-known institute of higher education that incorporates the liberal arts, management studies, economics, and law, with foreign languages and tourism as its outstanding features. The school attracts students from across the country with the purpose of developing young people who are professional and proficient in foreign languages, tourism, economics, trade, and finance to help national economic and social development. Its language departments cover English, Japanese, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Korean. The university courses cover many areas in the International Communication School, Law and Politics School, International Economics and Trade School, Tourism Management School, International Cultural Exchange School, Continuing Education School, Advanced Vocational Education School, and Academy of Tourism Development. It also has the Institute for Transcultural Studies and Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Institute for higher education that is multi-level and-purpose based. The university offers 18 special undergraduate programs, in English, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, French, Korean, German, Portuguese, Chinese language and culture, International politics, Law, Tourism management, Journalism, Marketing, Finance management, Finance, and international economics & trade. There are graduate programs in English, Japanese, Russian, Foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, Enterprise management, International business, and Tourism management. The university has more than 10, 000 Chinese students and at least 900 international students in undergraduate, graduate, and language studies.

Chinese language (more than 6 mo): Chinese
The International Cultural Exchange School is responsible for Chinese courses and enrolls foreign students. The school offers a Chinese language specialty (including tourism and finance) for undergraduates and a Chinese-language learner program. It was one of the first programs in Beijing authorized to hold the HSK Exam, which is offered three times a year, in May, July and December.

Short-term program (less than 6 mo): Depending on student needs, Chinese language courses can be arranged at different times.
