US Ambassador to China Gary Locke visited Reignwood Pine Valley in Changping district, Beijing, and planted trees signifying Sino-American friendship there s on March 29.
Pine Valley is one of China's top top-rated championship golf courses and private member clubs developed by the Reignwood Group, which was founded in 1984 in Thailand by Dr. Chanchai, a Thai-Chinese businessman who hadwith strong roots in China.
2013 marks the 34th anniversary of the Sino-American diplomatic relations. The evergreen trees they planted symbolize the everlasting friendship between China and the U.S., and also theira commitment to improving Beijing’s environment. The ambassador came to Reignwood Sandstorm-Control Museum, where documents and materials that record the Reignwood Group’s efforts to turn the desertified land into an ecological demonstration zone on the outskirts of Beijing over the past decade are on displayed.
In the past two decades, the group has grown into a multinational company with investments in green industries, health and wellness. It has branch offices across Asia, Europe and North America.
Gary Locke expressed his appreciation for Dr. Chanchai’s achievements in the real economy and hoped to extend the cooperation between American enterprises and his group with the help of the two countries’ embassies.
It is of the mutual interests to explore a sustainable development pattern, especially in high technology, low carbon industry and environment protection, according to Dr. Chanchai.
The ambassador and his fellow colleagues also visited the “Sino-Thailand friendship woods” in Reignwood Pine Valley, which was initiated established in 2001 when Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited China. In the next following years, many Thai high-ranking Thai officials followed in her steps and came herevisited to plant trees.
