A deputy village head was sacked for "extravagant waste" after he allegedly spent an estimated 1.6 million yuan ($260,000) on a lavish, three-day wedding for his son, media said on Tuesday. Ma Linxiang, a deputy head from Qingheying village in Chaoyang district, hosted an estimated 250-table wedding banquet at the China National Convention Center. Ma said the wedding was hosted by both families, and that he "couldn't stop" the bride's family from splurging on the venue as well as a troupe of performers.
