Movie director Zhang Yimou said his three children lived secretly for years because they didn't have an officially recognized identity - the result of his violation of the family planning policy.
Zhang broke a weeklong silence over the issue and apologized to the public on Sunday, saying that he will willingly accept punishment for violating the policy, the Beijing News reported.
