The city of Beijing began a campaign recently to ensure the quality and safety of its food and drugs, according to authorities who made the announcement, on Dec 26.
The Beijing Food and Drug Administration (BFDA) said that it will work with the police to crack down on unlicensed businesses and illegal online sales of food and drugs, and will penalize any improper activity, a BFDA Official, Meng Hui, explained.
The campaign’s inspections will cover 13 types of food, including grain and meat products, cooking oil, and dumplings. Areas of intense food consumption, such as busy commercial sites, supermarkets, department stores, wholesale markets, airports, railway stations, and scenic spots will be getting close scrutiny.
