Beijing residents must register their identities if they want to buy five boxes of fireworks at a time, Beijing Morning Post reported on Monday.
To alleviate smog days and protect the capital’s air environment, the municipal government has enforced stricter requirements on fireworks purchases, the report said.
Under the requirement, sellers must record the identities of people who buy more than five boxes of fireworks at a time and report them to local public security bureaus, the report said.
The requirement also banned the sale of fireworks to minors and people with mental health problems, in a move to ensure their safer use, the report added.
