The term “urban disease” became a buzzword at the panel discussion of Chaoyang district at the ongoing 14th Beijing Municipal People's Congress on Jan 16.
The word represents Beijing’s shortfall in resources and infrastructure capacity.
“Beijing’s urban diseases are deep-seated,” said Du Deyin, director of Beijing Municipal People’s Congress.
The capital should not unrealistically compare its economic growth rate and economic aggregate with its peers in China.
Beijing should develop and map out its functional industries. Even if an industry beyond the scope is profitable, it should not be developed. Beijing should also give full play to its service resources to provide services for the whole nation.
Beijing will upgrade and transform its industrial structure to heal its urban diseases.
